Fort Myers, Fla. – You can walk or you can run, but you don’t want to miss the Florida Department of Health in Lee County and Lee County Parks & Recreation’s 2017 Color Splash 5K2.0 at 7:30 a.m. Saturday, September 23.

This fun, family friendly 5K encompasses three laps within Lee County Park & Recreation’s beautiful Wa-Ke Hatchee Community Park. Registration and participation is FREE and limited to the first 500 registrants.

“Last year’s event was so much fun that participants almost overlooked they completed a 5K,” said Kevin Kirkwood, Health Promotion Program Administrator. “A healthy waistline is the result of nutritious foods in proper portion sizes and adopting some form of physical activity, ideally 150 minutes per week for adults and 60 minutes per day for children.”

In addition to the Florida’s Healthiest Weight activity this event will also honor “World Heart Day 2017,” Lee County Emergency Medical Services responders will partner with Florida Department of Health in Lee County CPR instructors to demonstrate “hands only” CPR technique. Vendors will share fun ideas for active family fun and healthy eating.

Helpful Tips to Fully Enjoy the Experience:

  • Wear white at the starting line and finish plastered in color!
  • Dress up. This is the kind of race that screams for crazy socks, a tutu, fairy wings, and/or a fabulous wig.
  • Anything you don’t want colored, please leave in the car or use plastic sandwich bags to protect it.
  • Leave your iPod, GPS watch, and racing mentality at home. This is truly a fun run and should be enjoyed with all of your faculties. Besides, you really don’t want to risk damaging your devices due to the colored powder.
  • Wear a scarf, bandana, and/or sunglasses, but not your favorite pair. It will help protect your do and your eyes from the color. You can always just close your eyes as you run through the color stations, too.
  • Bring wipes. You are going to at least want a cursory swipe with the wipes to make sure everything you touch in your car doesn’t turn colors. Bring a towel for your car seats or plastic covers.
