Megan Widman, MPH, CHES

Public Health Preparedness Director

Megan Widman began her career with the Florida Department of Health in Lee County in 2021 as a Public Health Preparedness Planner. She was promoted to Public Health Preparedness Director in 2024. She focuses on Special Needs Sheltering, emergency notifications and drills, evaluating community partners’ Comprehensive Emergency Management Plans, maintaining internal Emergency Operations Plans, and liaises with external health and emergency management partners.

Megan is a graduate of Tulane University’s School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine, where she holds a Master of Public Health in Disaster Management. While there, she completed a thesis pertaining to how to use the CDC’s Social Vulnerability Index to assess risk factors for not evacuating during a disaster, as well as learned to love New Orleans culture. Before grad school, she attended Southern Illinois University Edwardsville, 30 minutes from her hometown, where she obtained a Bachelor of Science focusing on Public Health, with a minor in Anthropology. She is experienced in Health Promotions from spending time at the Madison County Health Department, and with the Civilian Health Promotion Services program at Scott Air Force Base. She is also a Certified Health Education Specialist through the National Commission for Health Education Credentialing.

Megan is passionate about public health, and enjoys the combination in this role of planning, response to emergencies, and continued learning about the ever-changing public health field. She can be found roller skating, playing board games, and painting in her free time.
