Cheryl Adams began her public health career in 1994 working for the Immunizations Program at the Florida Department of Health in DeSoto County.  Since then, she has worked in various Florida Department of Health (FDOH) Communicable Disease programs including HIV/AIDS, Epidemiology, STD, Tuberculosis, and Refugee Health. In 2016, Cheryl was selected as a Statewide Trainer, teaching a National CDC Curriculum to onboarding Disease Intervention Specialist throughout the state of Florida and has trained over 1,000 Disease Intervention Specialists. In 2018, Cheryl was promoted to Area 8 STD Program Manager where she provided technical oversight and assistance to the seven County Health Departments in Area 8 while managing the local STD program for the Florida Department of Health in Lee County.    

Cheryl is now the Biological Administrator for the Florida Department of Health in Lee County and brings years of experience and knowledge in all aspects of infectious diseases. As Director of Communicable Diseases, she is responsible for providing oversite and direction to Epidemiology, HIV, STDs, and Regional Tuberculosis programs. 

Cheryl has served on many committees and workgroups during her career including the Tuberculosis Special Interest Group and Area 8 Regional HIV/AIDS Consortium (RHAC). Cheryl is a dedicated public health professional with a passion for preventing and controlling the spread of communicable diseases in Lee County.
