Mental health includes our emotional, psychological, and social well-being. It affects how we think, feel, and act, and helps determine how we handle stress, relate to others, and make choices. Mental health affects not only a person, but their family and community.

This resource guide provides information on local and national organizations that offer mental health services in our community.

Mental Health First Aid Training

A classroom with more than ten people having a meeting

Just as CPR helps you assist an individual having a heart attack, Mental Health First Aid helps you assist someone experiencing a mental health or substance use-related crisis.

At the Florida Department of Health in Lee County (DOH-Lee), we teach Adult and Youth Mental Health FirstAid. These FREE trainings are in-person and last 8-hours.

In the Mental Health First Aid course, you learn:

  • Risk factors and warning signs for mental health and addiction concerns
  • Strategies for how to help someone in both crisis and non-crisis situations
  • Where to turn for help

If you are interested in hosting or planning a training, please contact our Health Educator by calling 239-332-9501.
