Special Needs

The Special Medical Needs Shelter Program is available to all Lee County residents at no cost.

To qualify for the program, residents must :

  • Require special medical needs with care that exceeds basic first aid provided at most shelters

      and

  • Have dependence on oxygen, or require electricity for medical equipment as determined eligible by the Florida Department of Health (FDOH).

Registration does not guarantee you will be assigned a space in the Special Medical Needs Shelter. 

Your application will be reviewed by the FODH and, if approved, you will be assigned to a shelter where your needs can be managed.

The registration with the Special Medical Needs Shelter is not a reservation at the shelter as space is limited.
