DOH-Lee Earns Fit Friendly Gold Award

June 16, 2015

Lee County, FL—The Florida Department of Health in Lee County earned its fifth consecutive Fit Friendly Gold Award for maintaining a healthy workplace. The honor is granted for the main office at 3920 Michigan Avenue in Fort Myers.

“Encouraging our employees to live a healthy lifestyle allows us to set a good example for the community,” said Robert Palussek, administrator for DOH-Lee. “Full time workers spend more time at work than at home, so it’s important for employers to support staff health. All businesses can earn this award by making simple changes.”

The Gold Award criteria require healthy options in vending machines, daily independent physical activity opportunities for staff, education programs, healthy food policies and tobacco cessation encouragement. Businesses are evaluated annually on the criteria and appropriate changes.
