DOH-Lee farm market marks World Food Day

By Diane Holm

October 16, 2014

Lee County, FL—The first Farmer’s Market hosted by the Florida Department of Health in Lee County to mark World Food Day will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday, October 24, 2014 at the main office, 3920 Michigan Avenue, Fort Myers. The market will increase access to fresh produce and encourage healthier eating for employees and neighborhood residents.

“We encourage the neighborhood residents, as well as employees to attend,” said Kevin Kirkwood, Health Promotions manager for DOH-Lee. “Purchasing locally grown produce is a win for local growers and a win for the consumers.”

Local farmers will feature Lee County grown produce and honey, as well as edible plants that can be transplanted into shopper’s home soil. Sellers include local growers who at this market will offer seasonally available produce.

Produce will sell for cash only. Everyone is welcome. For more information contact Kirkwood at 239-332-9658 or Brendan Donohue at 239-332-9651.
